Europe's best 1/8th off-road drivers gather in Auxerre, France
A
quick note. I wrote this report for NeoBuggy, it was a fun trip to France. Unfortunatly massive storms just before the race knocked out the internet for the region and it was dodgy throughout the race. Therefore the report turned out to be quite short, as it was wirtten in the the early hours of the morning on a VERY slow and unreliable connection. The report can be seen on NeoBuggy, as can a whole stack of photos in the gallery taken by Phil and Arnaud as well. Below is just a plain copy of what I done for Neo. NeoBuggy
Euros 2007
6am on Friday morning I was woken early, by the sound of thunder! Looking out the window I saw the heavy, heavy rain. We are staying literally 60 seconds from the track, so we knew the outlook was going to be poor just down the road. On arrival we had noticed that the club had covered their track with plastic sheeting. Very wise indeed, as huge puddles formed in areas all around the track. Racing was postponed for 2 hours, when the rain had stopped the track was uncovered and sawdust used to cover any wet patches.
The first round of the day (round 4) was very slow indeed, as the track was damp and cold. None of the drivers set a 10 lap time in this round, therefore a lap down on the day before. By the second and last qualifying round the sun was out and the track was in much better condition.
Drivers were really pushing their cars as fast as they could after the slow round 4. The risk of pushing a buggy to its limits, and of course the last round pressure got to many. Small mistakes were made that cost valuable time by many drivers. This led to a surprise of Frenchman Jerome Sartel setting the fastest time in the 5th and final round.
5 qualifying rounds down, has Yannick Aigoin top qualified his 3rd Euro championship in a row? Well no, he hasn't. Spaniard Robert Battle clinched the TQ by just one point above Yannick. We think the Neo-Buggy stickers on his car gave him the extra boost.
Here are the full qualfying results.
Saturday promises to be a very exciting day so keep an eye on the Neo main page for the very latest in the finals.
